#READ KINDLE ì The Crystal Horizon: Everest-The First Solo Ascent á eBook or E-pub free

Great story by one of the best mountaineers of all time This is his personal account of his 1980 solo ascent of Mt Everest, without supplemental oxygen To his credit, he included some diary entries of his girlfriend, who accompanied him to base camp Those excerpts were not always complimentary, but it did help to shine light on the type of personality who is so driven to do the feats that Messner has accomplished If you like adventure stories, this is definitely worth a read. #READ KINDLE õ The Crystal Horizon: Everest-The First Solo Ascent â On August , , Reinhold Messner, The World Renowned Master Of Alpine Style Climbing, Became The First Person To Reach The Summit Of Everest Solo And Without Supplemental Oxygen A Vivid Account Of The Expedition, The Crystal Horizon Also Reflects On How He Explored His Innermost Thoughts While Facing The Most Extreme Physical Challenge He Had Ever EncounteredPhotosPage Color Photo Insert Messner writes in a very different style than the other climbing books that I have read He doesn t just write about the act of climbing the events of an expedition He is very introspective, almost philosophical He writes about the inward effects of climbing and how it works on the psyche He also has a deep concern for the local people and the political turmoil affecting the country He is very insteresting to read but seems to have a very melancholy personality. ,8 ,, , This book is about the first Everest solo climb without the aid of oxygen from the north Tibet side The journey is narrated by Messner himself and through sections of diary entries of Nena, which, among others, depicts the complex layers of Messner It also weaves other information such as the famous trivia of who climbed first Irvine and Mallory or Tenzing and Hillary , other attempts by non mountaineers like Maurice Wilson who strongly believe in fasting and faith could overcome anything, and Tibet its terrains, cultures and under occupancy Little infos along the way such as yaks being hypersensitive I enjoyed that too. This book though, is one of those books that I really appreciate the content, hence I continue reading to extract the knowledge and motivation, but took multiple sittings to finish because of the way it is presented it lost me here and there, but captivated me at certain others. Well written, insightful, beautifully descriptive recounting of his climb in 1980 without oxygen, up the North Face if you want insights into technique, this gives them if you want a detailed review of the history of solo attempts on the mountain, this has it if you want insights into what drove this guy, this has it. For a spare tire sporting liberal arts junky like myself, Everest literature is mostly about escapism, philosophical musing, and okay, I admit it, living vicariously Regardless of how you come to this book, it is a great treatment on the personal experience of climbing Everest, made all thepersonal by the fact that Mr Messner does it alone. If what you are wanting are the thrills and spills of atypical mountain climbing story, The Crystal Horizon might not be the book for you It is a thorough examination of not only the climb, but the challenge of getting permits, coping with celebrity, traveling through Tibet, and reconnoitering terrain I estimate the actual solo assent comprises about a third of the text While I wasn t always on the edge of my seat, I appreciated Mr Messner s growing attachment to Tibet He does the native people justice, I felt And when Mt Everest finally comes into view, the book becomes mesmerizing As I hoped, The Crystal Horizon, via Mr Messner s commanding voice, wraps itself tight in the mystique of Mt Everest. Two other points in the books favor 1 Mr Messner loads this book full of pictures, farthan any of the other Everest books I ve read The collection includes wonderful snapshots of Tibet and its people.2 The book also contains journal entries from Mr Messner s travel companion, Nena Holguin I really appreciated Ms Holguin s reflections They revved up the book s personal stakes, and also provided some much needed humanizing of the climber Including her voice was a great choice.
