Toxic Toffee is the latest humorous tale in An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series It can be read alone if you have not had the pleasure of reading the other books in the engaging series Toxic Toffee has Bailey back in Harvest, Ohio after her six weeks in New York filming her new cooking show Before she has time to take her bag home, Margot Rawlings pulls Bailey aside to discuss her making a very large toffee rabbit for Easter Days Of course, it needs to be at least six feet tall or maybe just a wee bit bigger Then Stephen Raber, owner of Raber s Rabbits, drops dead in the square The poor man was poisoned want to take a guess with what candy and Eli Raber, the victim s son, wants Bailey to find the killer He then leaves his father s pet rabbit in Bailey s care he really does not give her a chance to say no I enjoy Amanda Flower s writing style It draws a reader into the story and keeps them absorbed along with the quirky characters and the various comical capers Jethro, the polka dotted pig, and his owner, Juliet Brody are back Juliet wants Bailey and Aiden to set a wedding date so the planning can begin Of course, the fact that the pair are not engaged does not deter Juliet Bailey s grandmother, Clara is such a sweet woman and she remains calm no matter what happens even the police showing up in the middle of the night The mystery was intriguing, and I like how it is woven throughout the story There are surprising twists along with artfully placed clues While I was not surprised by the killer s identity, I loved following the hints and enjoyed the unpredictable take down It is funny that Bailey s reputation for solving mysteries is widely known among the English and Amish in Holmes County One person commented Don t look so surprised, Bailey Your reputation precedes you I was frustrated with the reiteration of certain details Bailey being told to leave the investigating to the police, Aiden does not want her to get hurt, and certain details regarding the mystery are a couple of the repetitious items I had to laugh, though, when Juliet said, I m so glad that you will be my daughter just as soon as you and Aiden get around to announcing your wedding There is a very special event at the end that will delight readers of this series Toxic Toffee is a charming Amish cozy mystery that will tickle your funny bone. @READ E-PUB õ Toxic Toffee (Amish ThoughtsRabbits Rabbits Rabbits Bailey King returns from New York just in time for Easter Days A new festival created to bring tourists to Harvest, Ohio While there will be plenty of live rabbits hopping around, Bailey has been asked to make a huge sweet bunny featuring tons of toffee While trying to get all the details Bailey meets rabbit keeper Stephen Raber and his special bunny, Puff In the middle of the conversation, Mr Raber falls to the ground Bailey shouts for help, but the man is dead Everyone assumes he had a heart attack, but the coroner finds evidence Stephen Raber was poisoned.Bailey finds Mr Raber was very well liked in the community, why would anyone want to kill him The victim s son begged Bailey to find the killer as she had before for others Then when she learns the murder weapon was a piece of toffee she feels she has no choice and pushes Aiden, her boyfriend Deputy Sheriff to let her in on his investigation He knows the Amish will open up with her than they would with him so he agrees They may go down a few rabbit holes to solve the case of the Toxic Toffee, but as long as they solve the case, it s worth it.I love these characters Even with a murderer in their midst, they still know what s important Keeping a special bunny safe, constructing a giant toffee rabbit, keeping the sweet shop s shelves full for customers, and in Juliet Brody s case, getting Aidan and Bailey hitched in a summer wedding They have barely started dating and are definitely not engaged All the characters are fleshed out and believable The interactions and dialogues are true to life The animals are absolutely delightful too The author also sweetens the story with plenty of humor in all the right places. The mystery is a real puzzler Stephen Raber s is new to us readers but has been a resident of the Harvest area for a long time as part of the Amish community Bailey and Aiden could ask almost anyone in town about his life and how it has changed since he lost his wife The fact that Bailey has become the caretaker of the victim s pet rabbit named Puff is an interesting twist and felt like it gave Bailey an added push to solve the crime Unfortunately she also on the killer s radar and she finds herself in some very dangerous situations Ms Flower plotted out this story so well There is always something happening and there are some fantastic twists I had no idea whodunit until Bailey did.I really enjoy the way Amanda Flower uses her Amish knowledge to build stories that show the two cultures coming together in so many ways Bailey and her Amish grandmother have such a wonderful relationship She also has an amazing relationship with Charlotte who has not yet been baptized into the faith It is truly heartwarming the way the entire community comes together in good times and in bad. Each visit the Harvest is unique and they always end too soon I can t wait to return in December for the premiere of Amish Matchmaker Mystery Series. Bailey is back in town after doing a TV show in New York working with her Amish Grandmother in the Candy shop Easter is almost here and Bailey has to make an 8 foot bunny out of chocolate and toffee for the town square The nicest Amish man, Stephen, in town dies on the square and it is murder someone has given him poisoned toffee He had raised rabbits and Bailey is given one to take care of She finds out he had a first marriage where his wife died in a grain bin accident and an son who ran away from the Amish when he was 12 Stephen had been getting threatening letters for two weeks before he was killed Bailey has to figure out who did it Interesting information about making candy Bailey s boyfriend is a policeman and the romance is heating up. Bailey, Aiden, and the rest of the village of Harvest Ohio return in Toxic Toffee, the fourth in the Amish Candy Shop cozy mystery series. It s a week before Easter when the village s self appointed marketer, Margot, convinces chocolatier Bailey to make a six foot toffee bunny for the town square Margot had also arranged for Stephen Raber to bring several rabbits to form a petting zoo Stephen has a pet bunny named Puff that he treats like a child When Stephen drops dead on the square, most assume it was his weak heart However, the coroner determines he was poisoned by a piece of toffee that contained Lily of the Valley When Stephen s son Eli asks for Bailey to investigate, he also drops off Puff How can she refuse either request It always seems like I m catching up with old friends when I m reading a book in this series In Toxic Toffee, Bailey reaches even deeper into Amish culture by attending a quilting circle, talking to a matchmaker, and discovering how people who leave the faith survive in the modern world The mystery was great The murderer s identity was a complete surprise to me Overall, another great book in an excellent series 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review. Since I have visited Amish country several times in PA, I cannot get enough of this series Its diverse characters and how they can clash, makes this an entertaining read Toxic Toffee is the fourth book in The Amish Candy Store Mystery series. It s always a nice to visit with the folks of Harvest and to catch up with what is happening in Bailey s life.Bailey and Charlotte returned from New York City where Bailey taped six episodes for her TV new TV series, Bailey s Amish Sweets Easter is just a week away and Margot Rawlings, the towns super organizer has already started working on the celebration She has asked Stephen Rader to provide a display of rabbits from his rabbit farm in the town square Margot has been trying to see Bailey, who has been trying to avoid her as she is sure that nothing good will come of it Margot finally catches up with Bailey and asks her to make a six foot tall rabbit to put in the town square As they are discussing the rabbit that is to be made, Rader approaches looking as he is starting to get ill, and asks Bailey to hold his pet rabbit, Puff No sooner had he handed Puff off to Bailey he grabbed his chest and collapsed, passing away in front of Bailey and Margot.Later in the day Aiden Brody, Bailey s romantic interest and deputy sheriff, tells Bailey that Rader did not have a heart attack but was in fact poisoned by a piece of toffee with a laced with Lily of the Valley.A day or two later Eli, the son of the victim, approaches Bailey asking her to find the murderer of his father He provides her with several threatening notes that had been left in a shed that houses the telephone that Amish nearby use He quickly leaves without giving much any explanation as to what the notes might mean The first thing Bailey does is give the notes to Aiden, with the thought that might let her do some sleuthing without giving her too much grief A couple of interesting subplots in this book center around Ruth Yoder and a new character, Millie Fisher Ruth Yoder, the wife of district Bishop, has never had anything decent to say about Bailey since her return to Harvest Ruth seems to think that the Bishop s powers also apply to her So it comes as a shock to Bailey s ears when she asks Bailey to find the killer of Rader She hears this at a quilting group at Millie Fisher s home Millie is affectionately referred to as the Amish Matchmaker Mille will have her own series, the first book coming in December 2019.This another well written story that reads at a very smooth pace.Delicious sounding candy recipes are included with the book.I m definitely watching for the next book in this delicious series. In this fourth book of the series Bailey has just wrapped shooting on her new cable television show and is headed home to Harvest, Ohio When she gets home she receives a call from the towns notorious busy body, she wants Bailey to create an 8 foot bunny out of toffee She agrees to the challenge and hopes that she hasn t gotten herself into something that she might not be able to accomplish in such a short period of time While taking a walk around the park to look at all the festivities that are going on Bailey meets Stephen Raber, an Amish rabbit farmer He has plenty of rabbits for people to purchase but loves them so much he will only give them to homes that he believes will treat them right Bailey is talking to him about his rabbits when he keels over and dies Much to her surprise, she finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation At first it look like he might have had a heart attack but after some investigating by the police she soon learns that he was poisoned Bailey feels like she must help find a killer, especially after the man died right in front of her His son even asked her to look after his most prized rabbit which she does reluctantly During the process of asking questions and looking for clues they come upon a secret that has long been hidden Will this new information lead them to a killer or will they set off in the wrong direction I love this series and all its wonderful characters The setting is one that I would definitely like to visit some day The author brings to life the mixture of the Amish life and the English way of living I m always excited for the next book It won t come as a surprise to those of you who read my reviews that Amanda Flower is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors She is such a wonderful storyteller that as a reader I am immediately immersed into her stories and transported to whatever fictional town she has created I am particularly fond of her Amish mysteries, and this series is no exception Let s start with the characters They are well rounded, dimensional characters that come off the page as genuine Her research into Amish life and the way she incorporates it into her books gives the stories such a authentic feel Being a frequent visitor to the real Holmes County Ohio, I can see it jump off the page with the descriptions of the Amish and English The mystery was well done and woven nicely throughout the story Poor Bailey, she can t help have dead bodies drop at her feet literally in this case Ms Flower does a wonderful job of providing hints and clues throughout the story for the reader to find While the identity of the killer was not a surprise, how it was revealed did come as a surprise to this reader As an added bonus, we are introduced to the main character in the author s next series and with just a little taste I cannot wait to read it.I voluntarily read a digital ARC provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.
